10:00 a.m. Friday, August 14th, 1960 17 starters
The race finish was moved to the corner of Manitou and Ruxton where it has remained thereabouts ever since. It was moved another 50 yards or so sometime between 1976 and 1984. Most likely in 1981 when the race was turned into a two day event.
There was no ascent division since no women entered the race. However four of the remaining 5 starters did reach the summit including a three generation team consisting of 70 year old Henry W. Adam, 36 year old Henry W. Adam Jr. and 12 year old Norman Dee Adam. They ran together to the top in 7:13 and then got a ride. A father-son team made up the final two starters. 82 year old Wilbur Putnam took 16 hours!!! to reach the summit and his 52 year old son B. C. Putnam did not even make it that far. Calvin Hanson again lowered his ascent record and despite the added distance also set a new marathon record.

This change took place in 1976. The adjustment times are for comparisons only and were made by adding 6.3% to the Ascent time. The adjusted Ascent was then added to the actual Descent time to get the adjusted total.Last regenerated: 1/5/2019 12:04:54 PM
